Summary: What do you know about 5G? is an activity conducted in the European Researchers’ Night 2022 of UC3M. The Fifth Generation of mobile communications (5G), is being deployed in our country. However, there is some misinformation and possibly false expectations about what 5G is. The main goal of this activity is to provide basic knowledge about 5G. The explanations are accompanied by demonstrations of the most important concepts of visible light (LiFi) and radio communications with MIMO technology. More information can be found here.

4K Summit HDR

Summary: 4K Summit is an international gathering for Ultra High Definition professionals from both technology and multimedia content creation sectors. During the 4K Summit we showcased our offloading architecture running on a commercial wireless VR device. Our offloading architecture allow the VR device to transmit a real-time video stream to a nearby server which was running our egocentric human segmentation algorithms on a nerby server. We managed to showcase extremely low round trip latencies below 40 ms, including the ML algorithm inference time. More info here.

Summary: TeamUp5G and IT contributed to research night Lisbon and has provided the opportunity to the school level students to motivate them for research in telecommunications by showing them lab research results. During the research night, we contributed video presentations about Li-Fi, was showing the real-time data transmission results using LiFi. Furthermore, ESRs and Professor Fernando Velez from IT have presented their ongoing research implementations and roll-up for exchanging research with other researchers. The topics include ‘’Spectrum Sharing and Carrier Aggregation in Heterogeneous Networks with Small Cells’’, ‘’Feasibility of UAVs in assistance in 5G networks’’, ‘’TeamUp5G Security’’. Based on the video presentation and roll-up discussion, online quiz activities were held at the end.

Summary: AULA (International Student and Educational Offer Hall) is a fair that helps students to effectively decide their educational and professional future. It combines a significant offering of educational and training centres, entities and service companies that respond to the training needs of students (from 14-15 years and above) who come to choose which centre to attend for training to get onto the job market. TeamUp5G researchers conducted a couple of demos based on demostrating the capabilities behind LiFi and Radio Communications.

Summary: STEM for Girls program is composed by technology workshops for the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) vocations in girls and young women. These workshops aim to motivate the study of these disciplines in girls in the 4th year of secondary school, 1st and 2nd year of high school, as well as to break down gender stereotypes. TeamUp5G contributes to European Researchers Night in Madrid 2019.

Summary: The aim of this participation is to generate a direct engagement of the people unfamiliar with telecommunications to make them understand the importance of research in our society and to bring curiosity of the topic to young students. It is aimed at all audiences and includes talks, screenings, games and interactive workshops on topics related to science, communication, cinema, humanities and new technologies. TeamUp5G researchers conducted the workshop “Hunting the invisible Bit“. Besides this, TeamUp5G researchers participated in the activity for secondary school “Theater and Science Fiction: from Physics to Poetry” giving the talk “How Spaceships Communicate“.
